As part of the “In the Footsteps of Marathon Legends” project, the organizers are honoured that Ingrid Kristiansen, one of the best runners in history, will visit Košice in October as a special guest of the KPM.
She was the first woman to become world champion on all surfaces – on the track, roads and cross-country. She broke world records and won at the great marathons around the world.
She was the first woman to run 5,000 metres in under 15 minutes, and her time of 2:21:06 from London 1985 was a world record for 13 years. It was in London that she found immortality, winning there four times (1984, 1985,1986, 1988). She also won in Boston (1985, 1988), Chicago (1986) and New York (1989). He greatest success on the track was becoming world champion at 10,000 metres in Rome in 1987.
Under the name of this legendary runner the first qualification rounds have already begun in eastern Slovakia, so that the best compete on 6 October in the prestigious 42 x 1 km relay on the KPM course. Secondary school students from the whole Košice Region, one of the relay sponsors, will get a unique treat for their efforts. They’ll run the last kilometer of the race on side-by-side with Ingrid so she is still in excellent shape.
Her journey to Košice is also tied to the fact that on Sunday, 6 October, we will have our 40th female winner of the KPM. And she’ll have the honour of being congratulated by this world marathon legend.
